I don't recall where I heard it, but it seemed to be from a good source. They said "BMW Marketing & Engineering sort of picked 400hp because it's a nice round number, not because the engine was really going to be limited to that."

With removal of the speed limiter one would think that the stock car would do ~180+ - I'm sure some lucky sod will tell us all once they get their car and work it over.

I would _think_ that removal of the speed limiting would require JimC-like ability to find it in the DME and remove the fuel cut-out. Jim previously described how the E36 M3 engine's limiting worked.

one would think that there is likely to be a fair amount of room to work with on the engine - 40hp sounds easy based on a % of the output and the magic that a good tuner can work.

If the market is there Jim will have an OBDII flash for the car in no time, though with the low # of US bound cars the market might be limited - no pun intended ;-)
