At the last MB get together, we dropped by Renntech, the big Mercedes tuner. They had just given a customers car to one of the magazines to test at Moroso the day before.

At noon time on this next day, the engine & transmission were out of the car and out of sight from us! When asked why, they said "oh everything is fine but we just want to make sure everything is still ok for the customer when he picks it up.

HELLO? Do they always yank engine and transmissions just to check compression and for oil leaks? Sounds like some super-duper raised pistons with avaiation fuel going on somewhere...

It will make for a nice test article in a couple months. Watch for it - it's a CL430 bored to a 6.0 litre with a 6-speed manual! Who knows what they will say the hp is - 420, 450, 490? But now you know the scoop too.

I guess things never change with test cars. Unless the magazine goes to a dealer unanounced and buys it off the lot, who knows how the manufacture has prepped it.

So now, just how did YOU get in that M5? Hmmm???
