600 lbs difference is not "lightly larger". One is a high performance coupe while the other is high performance luxury sedan.

These cars are for rather difference markets so I doubt BMW is too worried about their straight line performance being similar. There are many other differences between these cars.

Last I heard, M3 will be very close if not under 5 secs 0-60. But the M5 will, as it always has in previous incarnations, beat the M3 beyond that speed.
