: I have had a G-tech for over a year, and have had lots of fun with it. My best times with 88 535i 5 speed were achieved with a strong "street" launch--no wheelspin, slip clutch under power(at about 2500 rpm) agressively, so it is engaged fully in about a second, and then powershift the rest of the way. With this, I get no more than .3 second variance to 60 mph, and less than.5 to the 1/4 mile. Believe me, I have tried every way I can think of to launch the car, and this has been the quickest, best way. All cars are different, but maybe you will be surprised as I was how a street launch with a little extra will work. My best times are 0-60 7.25, and 15.6 @90.5 in the 1/4. I feel these times are pretty accurate on an absolute basis, because the were achieved on cold, dry evenings, and most magazine numbers are at 60 degrees plus.
Also, here in Seattle, we have "good air". It is remarkably dense for some reason.

With no disrespect to Rick, I think the variances we're seeing here have more to do with the launching with a 6sp vs. an auto.

: With an Auto, throttle-braking to 1500 ~2000 then flooring it, will get very good times, and very consistent times.

: I just got a GTech last week, and have done about 8 runs of 0-60. I have a 540 6sp, and just added Dinan CAI and STage II. My times have ranged significantly from a low of 5.65 (once) to several highs in the 6.8 to 7.0 range.

: I'm not consistent off the line, and haven't found the perfectly smooth shift and launch points yet. (It also doesn't help that there has been a ton or rain and some ice here in Seattle lately)

: I tried the GTech on our Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is an automatic. And while the numbers were poor (7.45, 7.51, 7.48) they were all pretty consistent.

: All this tells me is that I have to get working on clean launches, and figure out the best shift points. I'd like to get some conistent runs in, then work on dropping the time. From the factory the 540i 6sp is suppose to do 5.8. With the mods I'd like to see how much better than that I can get.

: I doubt that there are differences in the GTech's that could be attributed to the difference we see in Rick's times and yours.
