: All this tells me is that I have to get working on clean launches, and figure out the best shift points. I'd like to get some conistent runs in, then work on dropping the time. From the factory the 540i 6sp is suppose to do 5.8. With the mods I'd like to see how much better than that I can get.

I'm an *old* drag racer, may I chime in here to add that in my opinion, today's automatics are as consitant or more (not necessarily as fast) as a *very* good manual trans driver. (Which I'm not ) However, isn't it true that most times we are putting the pedal to the metal from a roll or at least a speed greater than zero on the road? Given this difference, I would look at 0-60 or even 1/4 mile times more only on the basis of refference / comparison, using the best time of a group to compare engine mods etc. To me, quick standing starts are not needed as often as midrange and top end. (Which avoid the weaknesses of road surface etc. to a greater extent.) Your thoughts?
