IMHO it's not an either or between a Ferrari and the M5. Both have gobs of power and stick like gum to a sidewalk on a 100 degree day, but they're very different cars. The Ferrari is FAR more visceral. You feel everything in your gut, the engine sings to you, it's almost as if you're in unison with the car, as if you move with it. The M5 is still VERY involving and the engine note is to die for but it's not the same immersive experience.

The M5 is the ULTIMATE driving machine for four passengers, and is a worthy addition to a stable of cars. It will also do yeoman's duty as an only car if you don't live in a cold weather area. But to choose between it and a Ferrari? It's a tough choice, because the cars aren't directly comparable. It all depends on what is important to you.
