As the owner of a brand new Toyota Supra twin-turbo back in 1994, I really did enjoy the car. My unit was stock and yes, it was fast, but not as fast as my stock 2000 M5. But, this post is not as much about speed as refinement--the Supra just can't come close in comparison to the M5 in total package scoring. I leased the Supra for 3 years (here in Florida, SE Toyota was blowing them out at rediculously low lease rates because of a glut of the TT's in the summer of 1994-$50,000 car, $450 month lease). I kept the car until the bitter end and moved into a new '98 540i 6speed. Right away I noticed the difference, the 540i didn't have the "bump jump" that the Supra had. The stock 540i6 is almost as fast as the stock Supra, but handling and safety was now more important to me. I'd rather be in a 5 series during a head-on or t-bone any day! In the Supra, I started to feel like a boy-racer with the odd space-ship design and crazy "JC Whitney" wing.

Verdict: The Supra was trouble-free, fast, fun to drive and served me well, but the M5 is in a completely different league. Sometimes we just have to move to the next level......

'01 M5 On the way..........

After a fairly uneventful night of attempted racing yesterday and a quiet day, the silver car was fairly hungry so a black E39 M5 piqued its interest... i passed it at like 65 mph just cruising along, noticed its "THE BOSS" vanity plates, and smirked... the M5 suddenly attempted a GM pass, but i downshifted and pulled about one car on him before traffic slowed us down... we repeated this manuever once again, then traffic cleared up and i was cruising at about 60 mph, about 5 cars ahead of the M5... waiting for him to try his GM pass again, which he soon did, i blipped the throttle to get #1 online, and when he was about 1 car behind me, i unloaded with both turbos simultaniously... at this point the front of his car pulled even with the door of my car, and then it was whoop ass time when #2 was fully spooled. I pulled strongly, about a car every 10 mph, or more... stayed in it till about 140 and was well more than 10 cars ahead, although i think he got out of it around 110-120... he promptly took the next exit with his tail firmly planted between his legs... so much for the pride of bavaria :)
