I would like to inform you (M5 owners) that i have found a way to improve your performance espacially the 0-60. The M5's torgue curve starts high and remains up in an incredible straight line up to about 5500 rpm. That is the reason you can't raise the rpm more than 1000 when launching your beast or you will spin your wheels. Even at 1000 rpm you have to smoothly release the clutch and feed in gas. This is one thing i always practise. In the motor trend article, it was stated that you will get wheel spin while shifting into second and third if you nail it right. That's true if you floor the gas pedal while releasing the clutch pedal (like how you would shift normally) but the beast would spin the wheels becuase of its powerful engine.
But i discovered the other day that you can avoid wheel spin in second by releasing the clutch to about 75% and then flooring it. Doing so, the power is translated into accelaration and makes the car take off like a rocket rather than make smoke and noise !!!
This technique is not different alot from the way you shift now, but you have to get used to dropping the clutch pedal almost three quarters of the way and then burying your right foot down. You can feel the difference while shifting through gears not only into second.
I proved my friend wrong who doubted me when i told him of my discovery. But he got convinced when tried it himself in my car!!!
Less wheel spin = better accelaration and greater speed.
Lastly, the most crutial thing in accelarting from stand still is the launch. I improved my 1/4 mile times from 13.99 @101 to 13.1@109 by the third run and the only difference was the launching and only the launching.
Enjoy your beast and keep it on the road !!!!
Best regards
