I am the one who posted the original RFCs re: M5 vs M3 to which M responded. You can read the other excellent replies I received by scrolling all the way back to 9/14/00.

In any event, I actually went back & test drove the M5 a second time, this time for a full 45 min. It is a wonderful car in its own right, with gobs of power (accompanied by a nice, refined jowl) once past 400orpm. But it's just a tad too softly set up, with feedback too "filtered" for my taste. So I am taking M's excellent advice, which is to wait & test the M3 whenever it comes out. I love my E36 M3, so I am in no hurry.

My .02 worth: You gotta find a way to test drive the M5. That's the only way to know if you like the car. The 540i/6 is as different from the M5 as your 328 is from an M3. M cars rule :)

Good luck,
Al
