It sounds like the leather has been replaced with plastic / leatherette. I had heard the leather dash was not good in hot climates, but this sounds like a shameful way to resolve it. Nothing looks or feels worse than the growing amounts of fake leather (or wood) on cars. Ever looked at or touched the E46 sun visors? Then you will know what I am talking about. Actually come to think of it, the 5 & 7 series armrests fall in that category too.

Great info. The other changes are a welcome surprise to me.
