i was saved from making the choice on my car.I had been leaning towards silver but took a carbon black /all black leather with alum. that became available.I have no regrets.I had also thought about silverstone but changed my mind immediately
once I saw one in person. This board (and the dealers) are full of stories of people who were shocked when they saw how different the color is from the way it looks on the paint chip in the brochure. My car will be a garage queen and see
only low mileage under controlled conditions.Carbon black is available only on the M5 and I believe the new M3.I also like this color because it makes the car look smaller and de-emphasizes the flair of the wheel wells. Also, I like the fact that the side moldings are the same color, also making the car look compact.
In general,I believe that all new high end performance cars look good in black,at least at first. As the years go by however, and the shape of the car becomes staid, the lighter color combinations hold up better, not only literally, but also pyschologically. For example, there are a number of e28 533,s that I see around my town. The
black one, even though well kept, loooks kind of funny in that color at this point, while the gunmetal gray with dark tan leather looks classy in an understated way. I'm sure that when they were new , the black was more impressive.
I like the anthracite seen in the link mentioned above, but in person,at least to my taste, it comes off even stronger on the M5 than the other colors,
thus it would not have been the choice for me.For a daily driver M5 ,I think the best combo is tit. silver with all black extended leather with wood trim.Again, not as flashy now, but will be a classic over the years.Good luuck and drive safely.
