Take the Skip Barber driving school. You'll get to not only learn alot of skills, but get to drive the RT10 and GTS Vipers. You will see how they handle, brake, and accelerate in a safe environment.

After that, imagine alot more horsepower & torque in your 540i, some better braking, some better handling, and more luxury features. Then you make the call.

IMHO, I think for the money, the Vette Z06 is a better buy now than the current GTS Viper. It's close to it performance wise, for alot less money. You'd have to want to pay for the looks and exclusivity of the GTS to really justify it.

The M5 just stands alone as it compares nicely performance wise, but blows them both away with quality and features.

First, no flame war please! I currently have a 99 540i Sport and am on the waiting list for 01 M5. Absolutely love the car, but I made the mistake of driving a friend's Viper. The torque on that car is intoxicating! How does it (torque) compare in feel to the M5. I haven't had the chance to drive a new M5 yet. The Viper is obviously crude compared to an M5, so don't bother with lectures about better handling and/or luxury. I may end up with both cars over the next several years.
