M5 foglamp hue fix (archive)

If you're like me, you were irritated the first time you turned on the foglamps on the M5 and noticed how poorly they matched the HID low-beam headlights. The stock halogens look quite yellow compared to the light blue hue of the main lights.
Last week I installed a set of 9006 PIAA SuperWhite HB4 51-watt bulbs to see if they would improve the situation. In my estimation, they're a partial fix. The PIAA's are both brighter and whiter than the stock bulbs by a good margin. From the front, the foglamps still don't color-match the low beam lights, but they're no longer so different as to be obvious. From inside the car, the fogs actually produce useful light on the road ahead; with the stock bulbs, it's hard to even tell if they're on.
Summary: if you're bothered by aesthetics at this level, the PIAA SuperWhites are a $70 fix.

Cheers,
Ben
