Question re M5 availability (more) (archive)

I have seen estimates on this board that the current generation M5 will only be available through the 2002 or perhaps the 2003 model year. I just placed a deposit on an M5 with a dealer in the Portland, Ore. a few days ago (late October 2000). The sales rep said that I was currently 49th on the waiting list and that therefore my M5 would be a 2002 or a 2003. Given my low position on the wait list and the upcoming demise of the current M5, do you think there is a significant risk that I will miss the boat (or on this case the M5)completely? If not, whatkind of wait can I expect? The dealer hinted at 1 to 1.5 years. Thanks for your insights.
