You will get used to it, esp. if you have any hand-eye-feet and hearing coordination. To get the full feel of how powerful the M5 can be (after it is broken in) you will need to practice. You don't want to try hard acceleration and hard shifts when you're a laymen. (You will hurt something).

I do not drag-race my 00/M5 however, I like to drive it hard when I'm on open road and/or its safe. When you push the car to its limits is when you appreciate the engineering marvel it is.

It is a great feeling to take an offramp at 100 mph and your car just sticks to the road.

Enjoy your new toy when you get it. I have had mine since 06/00. Built in 03/00, Carbon Black with Titanium LeMans/blu-blk interior. No mods yet, however, I'm eyeing the Dinan Stage II suspension and a BB Triflow exhaust.

I am on schedule to take delivery on an M5 in early spring. I having slight reservations because I have very basic limited experience with driving a stick. I am planning on buying something to learn on before it arrives, but I still have concerns. Are there any current M5 owners who were in same position as I and who are currently enjoying their cars, I would love to hear your thoughts? Realistically how long does it take to learn to drive a manual. I do not have to worry about traffic, and I am not looking to go racing all the time. I just want to enjoy the car and have fun. Or should I wait for the rumored SMG on the M5.

Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and opinions.
