Think a little bit. The luxury tax is in place because the people who create these taxes are the same people that are elected into office by the middle class (the masses). The politicians are voted into office on the basis that they create programs that benefit the people that vote them in. Since rich people are in the minority, and we dont' really give a shit to pay the extra couple of grand, we dont' make a big stink about it...and the tax remains.

I think it's quite fair. If I can afford a 100K car, i should pay a little extra in taxes than a guy paying for a 12K for a Chevy Cavalier.
