The M5's front bumper is actually more aerodynamic and some people do think it looks better. As a matter of fact, it's an option for non Motorsport 5 series in Germany, as well as the BMW individual program around the world. One of the reason's they probably don't offer this in the US is because of comments like this. Who cares if he wants the look? Maybe he thinks it looks better! What the hell is your problem?

...no one's really picked on him for wanting to do so.

It doesn't matter much to me, except maybe he's got a really nice cashmere-beige front bumper off his 528i that he'd like to sell me...the front of our 540i is all torn up.

I prefer the look of the base E39 front end, but the M5 front end looks okay.

The baboon-butt ridge around the exhaust pipes looks more or less okay on the M5, 'cause it's got enough exhaust pipes to fill it, but I've seen a number of the M-look-kit cars on the street in Germany and the rear doesn't look very good with only a little cutout and a single pipe sticking out.

Cooking up a four-tip exhaust for a non-M5 5-series would be going over the edge, though.
