Obviously the M5 will be more to my liking but is it substantially more firmer in suspension and does it have substantially more road feel than the 540i 6 sport - also for those who know, is it substantially firmer than the E46 328i sport too. I know it will probably not compare in steering because of the recirculating type rather than rack and pinion but.. what about all other issues and do they compensate atleast some for the steering too. Most important is turns, road feel etc.

The M5 is considerably more buttoned-down than a 540i/6.

It's definitely set up to understeer, though in most driving circumstances the torque of the S62 engine compensates pretty well.

The M5 steering is interesting: in normal mode it's a little lighter than the 540i/6 I drove a couple years back, but in sport mode it's considerably stiffer.
