I'm an M5 owner. It takes a LOT of practice to get max performance launches and upshifts. The M5 has the potential to outperform the E55 (all the magazine reviews gt slghtly better 0-60 and 0-100 times with the M5), but not by much at all. Given that most of us do NOT beat our cars to death learning max performance launches, I'm not surprised the E55 won. Any idiot can mash the pedal to the floor with an automatic.

But straight line performance from a stop isn't really a complete test. Get these cars on a road course with some corners, and the M5 will walk (not run) away. The E55 is a fantastic car but it is tuned a bit more on the side of luxurious straight line cruising, where the M5 has an edge in handling at the expense of a bit of ride quality.

I'd be proud to own either car.
