VOB looked at my car today and said it needed a new cylanoid??? I dont know what that is but I hope it doesnt take to long to fix! I already miss my baby. I picked up my 2001 M5 on Friday,December 1. At 5in the morning on Sunday, December 3 I was driving a friend home. I reved up to about 5K - the breakin instructions say not to exceed 5500. Suddenly, the check engine light comes on, the engine failsafe program lights up. I think I have destroyed the engine of my brand new car. Like you, I limped home thinking a couple of cylinders were shot. I checked the oil, it was okay. The car sounded awful, and there was a banging noise under the fuel injection housing. I had BMW put the car on a flatbed and take it back to my dealer(Princeton BMW). They called and said that the car was fine ( phew!!) The head of service was puzzled. He thought I might have gotten water in my gas line( I didn't believe it.) He said that they found a fault with the computer sending a fail message because one of the connections was loose. He only learned this when he put his computer on my car. ( Strange.) After all this, the car started right away and all was well. I hope that was the full extent of the problem. Good luck on your end. I am from Baltimore(Towson)originally.
