Tried to get my father to do the same, but he has had 9 Mercedes since 1976. Latest is a '00 S500. Personally I think it is a piece, but to each his own! For a fun car he does have a '00 Boxter S w/ Porsche 18" whls + sport suspension which I can't even run with in the twisties of the NC mountains. The Boxter replaced a '98 Carrera 4 that I was very fond of. Different cars for different purposes though. The Mercedes is large and stately, but I feel the quality is NO WHERE near what it used to be. Personally I would buy a 7er w/ sport package before an S class. But you really cannot compare it to an M5...different beasts!
