Anyone else notice you can't buy the bigger 380mms for your
M5 anymore? Any idea why? I asked the ultimate garage guy and was told he won't sell them. THats it.

You can send email to Heinz Schenk who is responsible for the USA market (for kits not sold by The Ultimate Garage).

I suspect the reason they won't sell the bigger kit here is because of the E39 hub runout issue. Besides the bearings being weak, the hubs (especially recently manufactured ones) have been exhibiting lots of runout due to manufacturing tolerances, so much so that some new E39 owners have experienced brake shimmy with their stock brakes. BMW has even loosened the runout tolerance to .004" before they are willing to replace the hubs. Given a significant hub runout, it is a virtual certainty that the huge 380mm rotors combined with fixed-mount, 4-piston calipers will cause significant shimmy problems.

That's why I suspect that Steve is unwilling to support the continued sale of the big MOV'IT kit to E39 users.

But I suggest you check with Heinz. If you can take care of the hub runout problem yourself at a machine shop or by simply buying new hubs until you find a straight set, then Heinz might be willing to ship you one of the big kits.

Dave Z.
