What about the Mayday feature on the Nav? (archive)

IF it notifies BMW with a location, cell #, and vin # could it be used as a tracking device in the event of theft, or does it not monitor constantly, and just send all th info when the mayday is issued. if so must one issue a mayday or would it do it if i was to wreck as well? any info would be helpful.
