I just had my M5 on a dyno and I have been hearing many different responses as the exact efficiency of the driveline. Some people have given me numbers as high as 20%. I am guessing 15% is safe.


I think the 20% parasitic loss figure is a carryover from the 60's & early 70's when testing was done on GTO's, Roadrunners, and Camaro's. That 20% is a very "standardized" number that was used for years in magazines to describe the "loss" in dyno testing. Nowadays I'd say the drivelines are much more efficient and that number should be much lower too.
