To me, it's pretty lame to test against a Corvette that is not top-of-the-line. Especially when even the z06 is still more than 20 grand cheaper than the M5.

...harder to get than an M5 right now, the hardtop body style is just flat ugly, and it may be good for a US GM product but it still *feels* 20 grand cheaper than an M5.

The comparative attributes still apply - the M5 has and does all the things one needs a real car to do, which (good as the C5 is) can't entirely be said of a Vette.
