What is the proper procedure to trim it. This is the second time I heard of this problem.
I tried this company to protect the front end of my M5. The installer spent an entire day installing this stuff. Then used a razor blade to trim all the pieces. Leaving gashes all the way to the primer.
After negotiation with Mr. Joe Kane (the Owner) he agreed to pay for a partial repair. I had the vehicle repainted and Mr. Kane was informed that it was finished. He then gave an invalid credit card. He has since refused to discuss the subject saying the bill was payed on the invalid credit card.
I am now suing him and Armourfend. This company does not do business in an ethical manner. BE WARNED!

If it is designed properly, as REflex Enterprises does (aka XPel) there is no trimming necessary.
If they messed up your paint, they should pay the entire cost of the repair. By allowing them to pay half you have already made a major concession.Sue them!!!!.
Contact XPel for a real professional job. They re did my 540I after aromourfend's initial installation two years ago.Xpel is 100% better.
They key with the film is the design. If designed poorly, it is a bitch to get right.
Good luck with the suit...I hope you are going after the total cost of the repair. They botched the installation, you shouldn't have to pair for the installer's incompetence.
