Search the archives for trunk lock actuator. Your electronic actuator is busted and will need to be replaced.

In the meantime to open the trunk, insert the key and turn (i think) to the left at least 90 degrees. It seems as though you are turning too far but keep going and it will manually release with an old-fashioned click.

Again, search the archives. I've replaced mine for about $40 rather than taking it to a dealer. Good luck.

I have a '97 BMW-540. The trunk is locked and will not open with either the remote control or the key in the lock. I have changed batteries on the remote thinking some security measure was at work. No dice. Fuses all look OK. I can hear a solenod clicking or trying to clik under the glove compartment when I push the remote trunk lid button, but I can't see it. To top it all off, I think my manual is in the trunk!

Any ideas?
