Is there an optional step-tronic or automatic gearbox available for M5

No, but the M5 training class instructors will gladly teach all ye clutch challenged drivers how;-)

How superior we must feel..... ignore the arrogant prig....

To Russkie2, no optional automatic is available. I checked directly with a contact at the factory as I was interested myself. It's not even available through BMW "individual" or as an "M" special as the standard transmission is not beefy enough to handle the torque. FYI... I had to sell my Porsche following a few back surgeries when shifting in stop-start bacame a no-op. Wanted an M5 (didn't like the AMG MB) but is is a no go.... Just ordered the regular 5 series.
