my indy bmw shop said most M5's and 540's come in very, very prematurely because bmw tried to do something stupid: they went to a smaller, less durable clutch than even the one they put into the e36m3 or the m5s of old. it's just not robust enough to deal with 394hp/370ft-lbs.

go figure. i would skip the 1400 out of pocket dollars and get an upgraded clutch unit from turner or dinan.

good grief.

sorry, i've been keeping abreast of the issue because i've been thinking about an m5, myself. i have a lowly m coupe for now.
