Also found a number of recent links in the UK that confirm the 2002 body change. Lot's of Pics if you do a search for an E60.

2002 does not equal 2002 model year and 2002 in Europe does not equal 2002 in the US. The first year for the E39 in Europe was 1996, while the US didn't have any 1996 model year 5 series (95 was the last for the E34 and 97 the first for the E39). You will not see the next 5er until 2004 model year in the US.
