As you may see from the picture I had the chance to test drive the S8 at the Audi PGA Open here in Puebla, Mexico (Home of VW/Audi/Porsche Mexico). As we know the guys at Audi we had a no speed limit, do whtaever you want with the cars test drive. So we did.

Coming from a 2000 M5 (sold due to high payments, insurance, service and with a 7 cars garage, well, basically could not afford it) I can tell you that the 400hp M5 is a very driveable machine considering its 400hp. Behaves in traffic and furious when pushed hard. I disliked the stereo/navigation as it looked liked a re-run of BattleStar Gallactica but this has been corrected in 2001.

The S8 feels sedated against the M5, always keeps composture, and even if fast it feels slow. Fit and finish is great if you like VWs but BMW always excells.

Here in Mexico the M5 is $140k where the S8 is $105k. The difference is mainly lowered taxes for Audi since it enters VW importation cuota, but taxes aside I think they are about the same. Both to be classics in its own niche.

Me M5.

Any real life experiences? Thanks.
