I must have picked up Mark's karma for this week -- my clutch gave up the ghost this evening, with a horrible burnt-brake smell which still lingers two hours after parking the car. I've driven plenty of stick-shift cars over the years, and this is a first. It's pretty clearly a design problem.

For those who have already had this problem -- what was your experience getting BMW to pick up the tab for the repair? Any special incantation necessary (like a TSB #)?

Minutes away from BMWNA. The head BMW technician told me the clutch was waaaaay to small to handle a power engine, such as the M5 motor. Your just another clutch that has gone good-bye. You did get "Mark's" karma with your clutch dying. BMW refuses to admit the "FLAW" with there incorrect design of the M5 clutch!
