Any Experience With BMW-Center Leather Protection? (archive)

Does anyone have any experience with the leather protection service offered by the BMW-Center dealers?

The leather protection service is part of the "polycoat" service (administered by "A Touch of Class" in Texas) that is offered to all new BMWs.

I have been advised that the leather protection service causes premature "cracking" of the leather after approximately 8 years (because the protection "seals" the leather and, thus, prevents normal ventilation).

Many thanks.
