I have found that the M3 and M5 are only WOW cars to people that have read about them and love performance cars (like the people we associate with). And a lot of those people seem to be more WOWed by a 400hp V8. My Z3 turns more heads than my M5, or an M3 could ever do. It's more of a "general public" WOW car, like the Z8 and NSX. So don't be disappointed if people aren't WOWed by your car. To them it's probably just another 3 series (like the M5 is another 540).

Steve's car would sell quickly in California. Steve, how about running an add in the Bay Area Mercury? Or L.A. paper?

Steve,
I am NOT telling you anything that you haven't heard. As we all know about (and lost$$) in the stock market.

There are "fewer" serious buyer for the //M5 these day (I am one of them) and aside from the stock market, these are the reasons for the sudden drop in M5 interest:
1)Lost of the "Wow" factor - now, i am not saying that the M5 is no longer a "wow" car. But let's face it... it's been out for 2 years now...It's still a "wow" car to the die hard e39 fans, but to everybody else, it's just another "Corvett" or "NSX" down the road.

2) The New "Wow" car is the M3, and as i expected, the M3 is taking "some" (not all, but just some) potential M5 buyers away from it. Also M3 is ahem "brand new" as in just released. Know what I mean??

3)Exept for few west coast dealers (mostly in L.A. and S.F.), Brand new M5 are asking at MSRP. The west coast dealers are snorting Coke rather than drinking it.

I honestly considered you car (love your color) but for $65,000, I'd rather spend another $10k and get one that's 2 years newer (2002) w/ the exact equipment, M5 experince, interior combo, that I really want. Now, if you are asking for $59,000 (and I didn't want to insult you w/ that offer, i know you lost alot $$ on it.. and another $6k is just pouring salt into the wonund) That would be one hellava deal!! (albeit, a fair deal as the dealers are buying it in auctions for $50k nowadays).

I hope you are NOT offended by my opinion. But That's the scoop!

;-)

cheers,

beewang

I have been trying to sell my 2000 Avus Blue M5 for a few weeks now. It is well maintained, in very good condition, and has a fair number of miles (14K miles). It is priced competitively (mid $60K range), and is available immediately.

For those who have bought or sold an experienced M5, how long did it take you to sell it (or for those who bought, do you know how long it was available before you bought it?).

Not to say I'm getting antsy, but I could use the money (wife wants a pool!).

If anyone is interested in a very nice avus blue M5, contact Fred Buckley at Wagner BMW in Boylston, MA 508-869-6766 x 243. Wagner has it on consignment, and will CPO it, as well as work with prospective buyers who need to finance/trade.
