M-Reliability Problems? (archive)

I am hoping that soon I will purchase my very first BMW. I am leaning towards the M3, but I hear many reliability issues on that board. I wanted to check this board, and there are even more msgs regarding poor overall reliability (as more M5s have been sold at this time). I would appreciate some guidance: should I go with the one of the Ms, or just stick to regular series, may be a 540, or even a 330? I would hate to put $60-80K on a car and then have clutch problems, squeeking seats, door and streo rattles, etc. (have not heard any engine problems yet tho).
