Like it or not, it is happening. That's why MB will run them out of business pretty soon.
Eastbound on outer State Street in Santa Barbara, in the twilight, my eye was drawn to some oncoming headlights. Looked initially like a black Pontiac Bonneville (sorry) wearing xenons. It was actually a matte/semi-gloss all black new 7-series. No chrome, emblems, or badges, but no question either. Had a Mfg or Dist CA tag hung on the back. Probably had Jon Shafer inside, iDriving from the right seat!
Looked pretty good overall, but who the hell can tell at a glance, particularly on a stealth/made-to-be-ugly version such as this.
We saw test mules for the E46 around these parts pretty early on, as well as a silver and a yellow M3 many months ago. I think it relates to the proximity of Port Hueneme, or maybe of the Camarillo test facility, or something more mysterious.
I know this is not the "correct" board, but you are my people.
