I did some testing on my previous BMW ('99 540i 6spd) with a G-Meter like device and found the following worked the best.

1) 2,500 RPM
2) let out clutch very quickly
3) as soon as the clutch grabs, nail it
4) dont rev too high, (I think 5,500 was the spot)

by doing this I was able to get my 0-60 times down to 5.5 seconds.
