You seem utterly fixated by 0-60mph times. Exactly how long have you been driving? If it was any length of time, you'd know such measurements mean nothing in 99% of real world situations. Why? Because 0-60 times are carried out in test conditions on a dry race track, usually with at least three or four runs to get the most impressive result.

Let me ask you: how many times have you added seconds to your away-from-the-lights dash because you haven't got the bite point just right, or because you fluffed second gear? Put a rapid, self-shifting, error-free performance car like the CLK55 up against a boy-racer in his M5 and there'll be next to nothing in it. Half a bonnet a most -- in the CLK's favour, of course :)

ps Everywhere I've read, puts the E55 over the 5 second mark

Let me quote your own motor bible, Motor Trend:

"The other German bad-boy sedan, Mercedes-Benz' 349-horse AMG-tuned E55 hits 60 in 4.8, the quarter in 13.3 sec/107.1 mph, and exactly ties the M5's 0-100-0 mph time."

You might also want to check the AutoExpress review of the M5 below, which puts the car's sprint at 5.3 seconds:

Which proves once and for all that all this peacocking about relative times is absolutely, totally meaningless, unless you're the kind of bragging bozo who relies on printed results to be representative of his own car's performance and impress all his friends. And that's just bullshit, because no two cars and no two drivers are the same, and nought-point-one here or there means NOTHING on the road.

BMW owners... sheesh.
