My boss has a CLK 430, raced him from a stop light...He had a passenger I had 2 passenger...NO CONTEST from the get go....

On paper this was a total mismatch...and it was in person... CLK55 would be much closer, but the M5 is still faster.

First, I don't see how a CLK430 could be expected to keep up with an M5. It's a mismatch, like expecting a 330i to keep up with an M3.

Second, I swapped my M5 for a 996 C2, and then went to an E55. Unless the M5 and 911 drivers are shift perfect, and I've yet to find one who is, you're not going to get in front of my AMG Benz. Aside from anything else, I don't have to get the engine revs and bite point "just so" to avoid lunching the clutch.

Sure, a little brainless, but then it's the result that counts -- and I've spent too many years stirring too many gearknobs to be bothered with that any more. Quite frankly, from a standstill the E55 is a roadgoing Exocet, yet a pussy around town when left in 'D' :)

Perfection if you ask me.
