In Reply to: loaded MSRP M5 = 83k, M3 = 59.5k, diff is 23.5k! posted by Jacob on May 26, 2001 at 00:34:18:

the total price if you were to cut a check for cash on a fully loaded all options 2001 M5 at MSRP is about 83k.

luxury tax and sales tax is factored on top of MSRP + premium. so a straight fully loaded M5 w/ gas guzzler tax is $74,795. add 4% lux tax above cap + 8.25% sales tax, and an MSRP all option M5 is about 82.7k, about 83k.

MSRP for an all options, fully loaded M3 coupe + gas guzzler is $54,145 - add lux tax, and sales tax and it's 59.5k

so, assuming you were paying cash on the spot at MSRP, no markups or premium:
- a fully loaded M5 goes for 83k
- a fully loaded M3 coupe goes for 59.5k

The difference is 23.5k, not the 10k some people have been throwing around. Do the math.
