OK I have a couple of questions for you guys. First off have any of you ever owned both, a 740i sport and a M5?? I know they are two completely different cars but which do you prefer?? Any serious difference in the ride quality, and comfort? The reason I'm asking is because my dad's lease is fixing to come up on his 7 so hes debating to give it up and get an M5 or to buy the 7. He likes the size of the 7 and the handling, and the power, although I'm sure the M5 has better handling and definatly more power. Anyway just wanted to see what you guys have to say about this. Thanks for any input!
I have owned both. The 740iS is a remarkable drive, and in many ways more memorable than the M5 because it delivers more than you and other drivers expect. The M5 offers staggering power but in real-world situations (i.e. traffic, city driving, etc.) is a bit of a bind.
I would expect that you're pressuring your father to get the M5 because of its enviable reputation... however, if he's used to the laid back style of the slushbox 740, the M5 will be a major culture shock :)
Get him to test drive both cars. You may also want to point him at an Alpina B12 (you guys get BMW Alpina in the States?) and at an AMG Mercedes E- or S-Class.

P.S. The B12 had its brace of 4 exhausts long before the M5 :)
