2001 M5 vs 2001 Vette Z06 (archive)

Well, i was out with my brother and some friends of ours last nite, when we decided to go to jack in the box (on camden avenue in san jose, CA). when we rolled up, there were a ton of people outside and like 5 suped up supras and 2 corvettes (one an '89, and the other was a new Z06).. i parked away from them and so did all my friends.. and we chilled for a little bit cuz the drive thru line was huge. so anyway, after a while i said i was gonna leave, and after i pull out of the parking lot, i look in my rear view mirror and see everyone with their hands up and stuff.. so like 5 seconds later a friend of mine that was still there calls me up and say like 4 cars there wanna race me.. so what could i do? i turned around and went back.. here's where the fun starts.

k, so i ask them where we can race that we won't easily get caught. so they say we'll drive down san thomas expressway and when there are the straight aways, the 2 or 3 cars (depending on the number of lanes at the time) will line up at the front of the pack of 20-30 cars and one of the cars will honk 3 times. at the 3 honk you take off till someone pulls ahead. so we're driving down for a little bit and this red supra comes up next to me. this thing is twin turbo.. crazy fast. so he pulls up and we're cruisin at around 40. honks 3 times and we go. at first we're even thru second gear. then suddenly i hear a sound like a loud gun shot come from his car and he pulls ahead a little. he must've had a crazy blow off valve or something for his turbos.. so anyway, i hear it again when he shift, and he pulls a little farther ahead.. and by the time we finished he was about a car and 1/2 ahead of me.. that thing was hella fuckin fast..

and well, now comes the z06.. which is supposedly god damn fast. so the yellow z06 pulls up and says he wants to race on the next straight away. so we drive a little and a straight away comes up again. we pull next to eachother and get ready to go. i honk 3 times and we're off.. we're even for mabye a second in second gear, and then i start to pull ahead. i just keep pullin ahead of the z06! i couldn't believe it! i kept goin to see if he was gonna pull some crazy shit and pull ahead, but it never came! i was so stoked.. but of course he wanted to race again. so this time we come to a standstill in the middle of the raod and a friend of mine gets outta his car to flag the race. we take off and he pulls ahead of me off the line and keeps a little distance ahead the whole time till around 80.. never really got far infront of me.. i'd say 1/2 a car.. we race 2 more times, i beat him once more and he beat me once more. now, i'd say thats pretty damn good for a 4 door family car weighing in at 4k lbs.. i thought the z06 would hand me my ass on a platter.. he has hella more respect for the m5 now.. after i beat him that first time we slowly drove next to eachother and he gave me thumbs up and yelled "damn man, that thing must have a shit load of torque" haha! i loved it. but wow, that red supra twin turbo was nuts..

so anyway, a few other races were me and the red '89 corvette who i smoked.. and hmm.. a 330 convertible that my friend had.. but he just told me he wanted to see how badly he'd get beaten.. but the supra and the z06 were the main cars that i raced.. so i can happily add a z06 to my list of defeated cars! and i know street racing is different from a drag strip or race track, but this is what happens in everyday situations. it was a good kill.
