Sounds like it is time for a valve job. I did the same thing once in a '74 911. Had to use the manual choke controls to keep it running at stops. It seemed OK on the road just like your M5. I would take to a shop and have a compression check run.

Good Luck

Hello,

Yes, I am an idiot, thanks for noticing ;-)

I really need some advice..

I MISTAKENLY downshifted to 2nd instead of upshifting 4th at around
75-80 mph. I caught my mistake before I let the clutch all the way
back out, but I still let it out enoughh to run into serious
problems. The car made a loud noise, but I thought everything was OK
as it sounded fine down the hwy to the exit a few miles ahead. As I
came up to the stop light off the exit ramp, it died. I was able to
restart and drive it a few more miles home, while it kept cutting out
at every stop light.

When the car is under load, it's no difference, but it is extremely
unstable and can't hold an idle.

Besides of having an idiot for a driver, anyone have ideas of what
could be wrong?

Thanks for your help

Matt
