I just returned from Germany this afternoon after leaving the "hot" M5 in Frankfurt at Harms yesterday. I have been in remote areas ofGgermany and only just read about the recall - strange that the M5's were not noted. Mine is a 5/01 build that was picked up on 6/18 in Munich. The car had just over 200 miles on the clock when the fire occurred. and yes, it wasn't just smoke, there were flames. I intend to contact both my dealer (Crevier in SoCal) as well as BMWNA to see how they are going to proceed to fix the car. The dealer in Farchant DE disabled the fan and the A/C to get me on my way. Naturally it turned hot in Germany the next day and we endured the heat without cool air. I have some digital photos of the melted parts and will post them if i can figure out how to post an image.
