I am in a market for a M5, but from what I have seen most dealers are charging a market markup between $15,000 to $20,000 over invoice. If so M5 might be too sleep for my pocket. A 540 would be my alternative choice. Can someone tell me the fair market markup for a M5? Thanks so much!

in CA during the height of the dot.com craze... yes, M5's were fetching up to $15K and beyond above sticker - and then only if you were lucky enough to find one.

Fast forward one entire year...and you can now get one a new one at MSRP in most places around the country if you call around and find a smaller dealership with allocation. The market for M5s is certainly still somewhat tight, however, it is much easier to get one now at MSRP without a long wait. I got mine in June 2000 after nearly a year wait - at MSRP.

Good luck!
