Just wondering when they are going to stop production on them . is 2002 the last year or 2003. i saw a picture of the new regular 5 series(not that high on it but oh well) and I think it said 2003 but with the last M3 they still made them deep into 99 even though all the e46 regular 3 series were already out . just curious thanks

Jarrette,

Although no one knows for sure (except BMW), I suspect we may see the current E39 M5 run one year past the last of the other E39s. Current reports indicate the new 5 series is due in 2003. Therefore, expect the current M5 to run at least until then, but not much farther. So, I would expect the last model year of the current version would probably be 2004 at the very latest. You have to remember that BMW will have to continue making the E39 body just for use in making the M5. This presents a problem for manufacturing since they will now be tooled up for the new car body's production.
