The E39 M5 is a 6-speed only. The M-Parallel spoke wheels was probably a give-away. But if it looked like an M5, then they probably just bought all the right body-kits and emblems.
What did the exhaust look like. Did it have the M-Sport steering wheel? What about the seats?

and couldn't figure out whether it is a modified 540ia or not. I first noticed the wheels are M parallel spoke 66M,
and when I peeked into the cabin, I saw no stick shift. I thought all M5's are stick only.
