oil specification change for E39 M5 (archive)

The following info was obtained from BMW(GB) after my dealer put the wrong oil in my '99 M5.

Castrol RS spec is no longer BMW approved Castrol are marketing a new oil as RS and the BMW approved 10W-60 and 5W-40 have been given new titles of castrol TWS(10W-60) and SLX (5W-40).

Not sure how this effects the US owners.

The BMW(GB)technical sheet number is GB-00-001-01 issued 23/3/01.
