It comes with an FM modulator system. It can also be hard wired with RCA jacks but I have no idea how to do that with the stock BMW AMP.

How does the sound quality of the cass. adapter compare to the FM modulator?

I have used an Intel Pocket Concert MP3 player in my BMW. It has an adapter that goes in the tape deck, behind the Nav/OBC panel. The MP3 player is then flopping around in the car with a wire hanging out, not pretty but it's easy and it works.
