I actually replaced the factory DSP subwoofer box in my 1998 540 using 2, 4 Ohm, DVC (Dual Voice Coil), 10" subs and the factory DSP amplifier. The factory DSP subwoofer box contains 2, 8 Ohm, 5 1/4" DVC woofers. Basically, it was just a test to emulate the M Audio option for the M5. The improvement was fantastic! In my opinion, there is no reason to replace the factory amplifier. I also replaced all the factory speakers (8 Ohms) with Sound Stream drivers (4 Ohm) with very acceptable results.

Please email me if you would like to see my preliminary pictures.
